Motorists Urged to Use Caution

The Deer are Migrating in Full Force

The Mammoth Lakes Police Department would like to caution motorists to be extra alert for migrating deer on Highway 395 and Highway 203.  Large numbers of deer are on the move at this time of year and they pose a real threat to motorists.  On Thursday, May 12, one vehicle swerved to avoid a deer and ran off Highway 395 near the airport.  The deer was struck and killed and the driver and passenger were transported to Mammoth Lakes Hospital for injuries received in the collision.  Both occupants were wearing safety belts which prevented more serious injuries from occurring.

Another deer was struck and killed in the same area by a Mono County Sheriff’s vehicle that was enroute to the first collision.
