STOLEN MOUNTAIN BIKE RECOVERED AND ARREST MADE
Javier Fernando Mendoza, 37 of Chino was arrested and booked in Mono County Jail on August 1 on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property after allegedly stealing a mountain bike valued at $3,500 from a Mammoth store.
Footloose employees reported the bicycle stolen on July 30 after reviewing security video footage and noting that a male suspect had apparently taken advantage of the store’s employees being busy by simply pushing the bike out the front door without paying for it.
A description of the bicycle was circulated to surrounding agencies, including Mammoth Mountain Bike Park Security, which in turn shared the information with park workers. Alert Bike Park employees spotted what they thought might be the stolen bicycle on August 1 at about 2 pm in the park. They detained Mendoza until MLPD’s arrival. Upon inspection, the serial number on the detained bike matched the stolen report. Mendoza originally said he had purchased the bike from another person, but then admitted he had stolen it from Footloose.
